About Gangotri

Gangotri is a sacred pilgrimage destination located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of around 3,100 meters. It is one of the four holy Char Dham sites and is revered as the origin of the holy River Ganga, making it a significant spiritual destination for Hindus.
The main attraction of Gangotri is the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, where thousands of devotees visit every year to offer prayers and take a holy dip in the Bhagirathi River. The actual source of the river lies at Gaumukh Glacier, about 19 km from Gangotri, which is also a popular trekking destination.
Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and pristine rivers, Gangotri offers not only spiritual peace but also breathtaking natural beauty. Visitors can explore nearby attractions like Bhagirath Shila, Pandava Gufa, and enjoy scenic Himalayan landscapes.
The best time to visit Gangotri is from May to June and September to October, when the weather is pleasant and the temple remains open. During winters, the region experiences heavy snowfall and the temple is closed.
Whether you’re on a spiritual journey or seeking Himalayan adventure, Gangotri offers a divine and unforgettable travel experience.
