Arrive in Varanasi and check in to your hotel. Keep the first few hours flexible rather than scheduling sightseeing right away. Spend the rest of the day at a relaxed pace — a short walk along the ghats near your hotel or some rest after travel works well, especially if the main festival evening is the following day.
